Artwork Description

Al Aqsa is a prevalent monument and mosque also known as the ‘Dome of the rock’ located in Jurusalem. It is where the prophet Muhammad was known to travel  to meet Allah SWT in a rapid miraculous journey, an illuminating experience in the birth of Islam.
In this piece I have captured the beauty of Aqsa in a midnight sensibility, using only a palette knife to signify freedom and a liberating experience that connects my vision to the struggles faced in this land. Al Aqsa touches my heart in every way, from it’s history to it’s beautiful construction, being a monument widely recognized in the Islamic World. There is gold leaf accents incorporated in the piece. This was also the original mosque in which direction Muslims faced for prayers which eventually shifted Mecca. My Islamic art widely projects a modern fusion as I believe in combining the elements of modern techniques with traditional subjects that blends this thought process into today’s generation. The principles in Islam and the laws set forth by the Prophet SAW is uncompromisable since time, yet Islam encourages constant flexibility and absorption of the changing times and being flexible to the world around us when used accordingly.
