Artist Bio

I am Morad Jasim. I am an artist that concentrates on doing my own handmade designs on clay ceramic tiles and plates based on traditional Ottoman artistic style. The process is based on 5 steps starting sketching an outline. Then followed with painting using a horse hairbrush to define the lines, and painting in the design. Then the artworks must be glazed, and the piece must be heated in a kiln to 1828 degrees. I started in 1997 in Turkey where I did my art apprenticeship and worked for 2 years. In 1999 I started my own art business by opening my first art gallery in Ankara Turkey. In Turkey, I gained recognition for my art and was invited to teach university courses in Beirut in 2001 by Dr. Nabil Haddad. In 2002, the Royal Family of Jordan invited me by the request of Princess Basma Bint Talal. Where I made pieces of handmade tiles for her palace. In the same year I was invited to participate in an International art festival in Doha. In 2003 was invited by Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani the former king of Qatar to make large handmade designs on ceramic plates. In 2003 I made plates to celebrate the founder of UAE Zayed bin Sultan AL Nahyan. I have also made a decorative plate for the president of Kurdistan Masoud Barzani. In 2005 I immigrated to the United States and lived in Tucson Arizona. I started to do art festivals in Tucson, Los Angeles and Phoenix and I showcased my art at different universities including Stanford University. In 2010 I came to Houston teaching ceramics at Harmony School of Fine Arts and Technology. I have been educating the next of artists ever since while participating in numerous art festivals around Texas. My artwork has been presented to President Obama, President Bush senior, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and can be found in the White House. Starting in 2018 I will start an art professorship at North American University in Houston Texas
